Siloam Serves Those in Need Through Health Care.

Siloam serves patients who lack insurance and who have difficulty accessing health services. Siloam utilizes a network of volunteer medical professionals and interpreters to provide care for our patients. Beyond primary care, Siloam provides opportunities for patients to receive specialty care including gynecology, endocrinology, dermatology, neurology, gastroenterology, otolaryngology, orthopedics, behavioral health and   physical and occupational therapy.

Siloam has diagnosed and helped to treat patients with various forms of cancer, heart defects, lung disease and other life-threatening illnesses. A broad range of relationships with area specialists, labs and hospitals makes this extended care possible. Working with these community partners, we are able to offer tangible ways to help break the cycle of sickness breeding poverty and poverty breeding sickness.

Demographics

In 2006, Siloam conducted 13,330 patient encounters. In 2007 the number grew to 16,430. Approximately 25% of our patients are children. More than 80% of patients come from homelands outside of the United States.

Refugees

Several times each week courageous families come through Siloam's doors. These families come to the United States under a special immigration status called refugee. They flee war-torn homelands where it is no longer safe for them to live. By the time they reach the United States they have often been unsettled for many years -- some of them living in refugee camps in extremely poor living conditions.

Nashville's primary refugee resettlement agencies, World Relief and Catholic Charities, receive approximately 600 refugees each year. Siloam serves these refugees as their first contact with the American health care system by providing an initial health screening and physical. Siloam's quick intervention is crucial to the well-being of many refugees. Siloam also provides hope. As we carry out our mission, to share the love of Christ by serving those in need through health care, we see wounds begin to heal, pain subside, smiles return, and hope grow.
