Siloam's team of volunteers, staff and board of directors gather to celebrate winning The Frist Foundations Awards of Achievement for Team Building.

At the annual Salute to Excellence awards dinner hosted by the Center for Nonprofit Management on October 30, Siloam was announced as the winner of the Frist Foundation's Team Building Award.

The Team Building Award sponsored by The Frist Foundation, recognizes organizations that have taken dramatic and successful steps since 1997 to mobilize, train and make productive use of volunteers, staff, community alliances, and other human resources to achieve significant mission-related results.

The award included an unrestricted grant of $15,000 from The Frist Foundation and a beautiful display award. This annual event has become the premier event of Nashville's nonprofit community. Seven different awards were given, recognizing the work of organizations and individuals.

The award application started months ago when Siloam's preliminary application was approved allowing Siloam to move to the nomination stage. A team of business professionals did an on-site visit and Siloam was announced as one of three finalists in early September. Thirty of Siloam's team of staff, volunteers and board members attended the event. Nancy West accepted the award on behalf of Siloam. She shared with an audience of about 1,000 people that Siloam's goal is to reflect the love and compassion of Christ.

The award was a highlight to Siloam's ten years of service to the Nashville community and a tribute to the tremendous growth that has taken place. Since 1998, Siloam has increased from one part-time staff member to a staff of eight, from 40 volunteers to more than 200, from partnership with one hospital to four, added multi-specialty care, and increased pharmaceutical and laboratory services. Siloam is a great example of what can happen when a team - volunteers, staff, board members and others from the health care community - join together to meet the health care needs of an underserved population.
